On the last day of the Belgium play-offs, an answer had to be formulated to three questions. Who will be Sporting Pelt’s opponent in the final? Who has the home advantage in the final battle in a possible third and decisive match? Is Hubo Handbal or Izegem relegated to first national?
Pelt’s opponent in the final will be Bocholt. The Limburgers had a difficult time against Visé, which won the Belgian Cup and the BENE League, for fifteen minutes. Scoring was the big problem, but that changed after fifteen minutes. Visé buckled under the pressure and had to accept a 16-9 deficit at half time. Bocholt quickly created a ten-goal lead in the second half and was able to finish quietly, 33-22.
Sporting Pelt had little trouble with Eupen. The dominance of the Limburgers in the first half translated into a 17-9 score at half time. Sporting also demonstrated in the second half and recorded a 37-22 victory. The first game in the final between Pelt and Bocholt will be played on Saturday, May 18. Bocholt then has the home advantage, the second and possibly third and decisive match will take place in the Pelter Dommelhof.
Hubo Handbal stood against Izegem with the knife at his throat. Only winning was good enough for an extended stay in the BENE-League. And coach Portengen had his team where he wanted them. Sharp, aggressive and effective in every position. Izegem recovered from an early deficit, but the visitors were destroyed in the second quarter of an hour. With 15-9 at half time, Hubo Handbal could start dreaming of victory. But that was not taken into account with Izegem. The visitors fought back into the match, coming back to one goal one minute before the end, 27-26. Goals from Bertels and Marchal eventually brought Hubo Handball into safe water, 29-26.
