Not yet a fifth national title for Sint-Truiden. Hubo Handball put sticks between the wheels. Sint-Truiden remains the leader, but has to go all out at home against Eupen on the last match day. The Belgian title will be decided in that match.
On the penultimate day of the play-offs, Sint-Truiden looked Hubo Handbal in the eye. A re-run of the Belgian Cup final, which was narrowly won by Sint-Truiden on March 30. Hubo Handbal was out for revenge and after a first half that was completely dominated by the merger team, a surprise seemed to be in the making. Hubo Handball was more eager, combined better and was on his toes in the zone of truth. Sint-Truiden did not do well. It lost every game, missed opportunities to switch quickly and missed half a dozen open chances. With half time in sight, Sint-Truiden was four goals behind, but with two goals from Van Praet they were able to limit the damage to 13-11 at half time.
Anyone expecting a real offensive from Sint-Truiden in the second half was disappointed. Hubo Handbal saw the opponent come within one goal a number of times, but was not impressed. On the contrary, Geyens, Toonen, Geraerts and Nelissen responded to Sint-Truiden. With five minutes left on the clock, Hubo Handbal had the prospect of victory at 26-23. Hubo Handbal played the match maturely and in the end there was nothing wrong with the 28-25 victory.
