The surprise of the second matchday in the play-offs came from Sporting Pelt, which defeated Visé, which won the Belgian Cup and the BENE League, at home: 25-26. Good for second place and the prospect of a place in the final.

Pelt had the lead for a long time, but gave up the reins at the end of the first half: 16-14 at half time. Yet the Limburgers were not impressed by the brand new cup winner. Pelt had the better of the game in the second half and was able to force a 25-26 victory in the final minute.

“If we want to get to the final, we have to score points against Visé and Bocholt,” coach Korneel Douven already calculates. “We succeeded against Visé, and next Saturday we will try to do the same in Bocholt. But first we can enjoy this victory. On Monday we will measure the damage from this wear and tear and start drawing up a match plan for the clash in Bocholt. We are not working on the home games against Hubo Handbal and Eupen for the time being, but if we remain undefeated in these play-offs then we will definitely play the final.”

Robin Schoenaker received a red card early in the match. “You don’t have much time to think,” Douven said. “Switch immediately and hope it catches on. Louis Delpire did that beautifully. He – just like all the other players – performed his duties perfectly and fought for every ball and every meter.” (I)

SPORTING PELT: Van Sloot 2, Vandenboer 5, Falke 8, Spooren 1, L. Vandebeeck 1, Delpire 2, Van Haesendonck 1, D. Vandebeeck 1, Antic 5.
