Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS) election of information technology businessmen’s organization has been postponed. The organization’s executive committee and branch committee elections for the 2024-26 term were scheduled to be held on Saturday (March 9), but it has been postponed. When the election will be held, it will be informed later, the officials said.

On this day, BCS executive committee and 11 branch committee elections were supposed to be held. But on Thursday (March 7), the Secretary of the BCS Election Board. This information was conveyed in a letter addressed to the members signed by Tozammel Uddin Shikda. The members were informed that the hearing was held on March 7 based on the appeal made by the Election Board to the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce. The decision of the hearing will be available next week. In this context, the election process of March 9 has been postponed.

It is known that 9 candidates submitted nomination papers for seven posts of BCS Executive Committee. Meanwhile, the Election Board canceled the nomination papers of two candidates as they submitted their nomination papers after the stipulated time. If they appeal in this regard, the appeal board upholds the same decision. Later, when they appealed against the decision of the Election Board to the Director of Trade Organization (DTO) of the Ministry of Commerce, the DTO decided that both the nomination papers were valid.

The selection board of BCS again appealed to the Ministry of Commerce for re-hearing in this regard. That appeal was heard today (Thursday). As Friday and Saturday are weekends, the decision on the appeal will not be available before next week. In this situation, since it is not possible to hold elections on March 9, it has been decided to postpone the BCS elections. Deputy Secretary of Trade Organization-2 of the Ministry of Commerce. It should be noted that this time the total number of voters of BCS is 2 thousand 150 people. Apart from the central committee, the election of 11 other branch committees of BCS is also scheduled to be held simultaneously. They will be elected unopposed as there are seven candidates each for 9 of the 11 branch committees. As there are 14 candidates in Rangpur and 11 candidates in Sylhet, the elections will be held for those two branches.
