Egger: The goal must be to completely open the labor market through the Western Balkans regulation

Vienna (OTS) “Whether in the city or in the country, award-winning restaurant or ski hut, bed and breakfast or luxury resort. All tourism companies have the same problem: there are not enough employees and this is now the rule and no longer the exception. A situation that will result in guests not coming in the future and thus threaten the livelihoods of many businesses. State Secretary Susanne Kraus-Winkler’s proposal to bring more skilled workers to Austria with its own Western Balkan contingent is very welcome and a step in the right direction. But businesses have to wade through applications to bring in staff from abroad instead of concentrating on entertaining and catering to guests. If we want to remain attractive as a tourist destination, it is time to take off all blinders and fully open the labor market using the Western Balkans regulation based on the German model. “Companies have the opportunity to decide for themselves whether the applicants’ qualifications and professional experience are sufficient,” said WB Secretary General Abg.z.Nr. Kurt Egger.
