The penultimate round of the regular season of the 2nd Bundesliga brought the top game between the second TTV Bösel Tulln and the leader from Ebensee.
Both teams were undefeated so far and played a match at the highest level. The first encounters brought the expected stalemate. Ebensee’s Michael Trink defeated ex-Linz player Thomas Grininger (Tulln) 3-0. Tulln’s No. 1, Martin Heimberger, dominated Ebensee’s Jonas Promberger just as clearly.
Then the game between the young players: Benjamin Girlinger (E) against Patrick Skerbinz (T). In retrospect, this encounter was probably decisive. Because despite the highest resistance, Girlinger was able to keep his Lower Austrian youth national team specialists at bay 3-1.
In return, the outstanding Martin Heimberger (T) gave Michael Trink (E) no chance. So the score is 2:2. Now came Girlinger’s (Ebensee) big appearance. Grininger (Tulln) didn’t get into his usual game and lost 1:3. Jonas Promberger (E) surprised the youngster Patrick Skerbinz (Tulln) 3-0.
Ebensee took the lead 4-2 to the delight of the traveling fans. Heimberger (Tulln) reduced the score to 3:4, but Trink and Promberger (Ebensee) finally sealed the deal. Above all, Promberger’s (E) performance in the final 3-0 win against Grininger (T) was terrific. So she wins SPG muki Ebensee in the basic round and creates a respectable gap to Tulln, second in the table.
The Sunday encounter with a clear 6-1 win over bottom team Sierndorf (NÖ) was then just a formality. Player-coach Ivan Karabec can now look forward to the play-off games with optimism: “Our goal of promotion to the 1st Bundesliga is getting closer and closer.”
