Rising construction costs and restrictions on lending have caused an emergency in the construction industry. WK President Mandl: “Housing billion will noticeably ease the situation.”

Klagenfurt (OTS) 10,000 new rental apartments, 10,000 owner-occupied homes, 5,000 renovations: The federal government is making one billion euros available by 2026 for a housing construction and renovation offensive. In doing so, the federal government is taking up the urgent wish of the social partners to help the struggling construction industry, prevent further increases in rent prices and keep housing affordable. Carinthia’s Chamber of Commerce President Jürgen Mandl: “This special package comes at the right time in terms of the economy and, according to our planning calculations, will not only trigger investments of around five billion euros in the residential construction and renovation sector, but also secure around 40,000 jobs in the construction industry.”

This is particularly important to Mandl because he wants to take advantage of the positive mood in Carinthia from the house builders’ fair that has just ended: “There is not a lot of good news from the economy at the moment, which makes me particularly happy about the great interest shown by visitors to the trade fair delighted with renovations and heating changes. We now have to take this momentum with us and convert it into concrete orders.”

But Mandl also expects positive effects from the package presented today in the construction sector: For people who purchase their first home, the land register registration fee and the lien registration fee for the first 500,000 euros will be abolished. Mandl: “This means that house builders and apartment buyers can also be relieved of up to 11,500 euros.” In addition, the federal government wants to make it possible for the states to have particularly cheap housing loans: the loan interest rate should be a maximum of 1.5 percent for up to 200,000 euros. Mandl: “We will see at the Carinthian housing summit on Thursday whether the state will use the opportunity to massively support the housing sector, its employees and the housing market in Carinthia with the federal government’s offensive and our proposals.”
