The doctor-patient relationship does not depend only on the doctor but also on everyone including the manager, nurses, wardboys and cleaners in a hospital for good medical care.
He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at an event for residents admitted to MD-MS phase at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Saturday (March 9) morning.
The health minister believes that the quality of doctors in Bangladesh is not lower than that of any other country in the world. He said, doctors were brought from Hungary and operated on a pair of children. When the children were given anesthesia, Hungarian doctors could not, only Bangladeshi doctors could. So our doctors are not less than any other country.
Dr. Samant Lal said, I have numerous proofs of the good talent of our doctors. Patients from Bhutan are getting treatment here. Not only the patients who are going abroad, but many patients are coming to our country from India.
He said, I will say something to those who are sitting here in front of me today. Let us take the dignity of doctors to such a place that the people of this country will stand with their heads bowed when they see doctors one day. The main task in this case is to patiently listen to patients, patiently serve them.
He also said, we will go to the hospital on time, we will come. I will devote myself to the service of common people. Our common people don’t want much, they are happy just to talk with their hands, to exchange pleasantries.
The health minister said that patients usually depend on doctors like helpless to get rid of the disease. In many cases a doctor has to take the place of the father. Doctors can build rapport with patients if they want to. By doing this, the patient’s confidence increases and better medical care can be provided.
The health minister also said that a large population of our country is semi-educated or illiterate. Whenever someone is suffering from a disease, the doctor should inform the patient about their capabilities and limitations considering the social status and provide healthcare to the patient accordingly.
Dr. Samant Lal Sen said, Good behavior is the difference between right and wrong and genuine and fake. I should treat others as I expect others to treat me. Morality is to always call justice justice, white to white and black to black. Lack of morals hinders the development of the country and the nation, prevents the qualified people from reaching the right place and increases the prosperity of the unqualified. The deserving suffer inferiority and chaos ensues in the country.
