Destroyed a gang of thieves, confiscated hundreds of car rearview mirrors

On January 28, the Police Investigation Agency of Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City, announced that it had issued a decision to prosecute Tran Anh Tuan, Cao Van Thong, Huynh Ngoc Ai and Nguyen Thi Thanh Vy. for the crime of ‘Theft of property’ and for Trang Si Uyen and Vo Van Viet for the act of ‘Consuming property obtained by someone else’s crime’; issued an arrest warrant for temporary detention for Tuan, Thong, Uyen, and Viet, and a ban on leaving the place of residence for Ai and Vy.

Previously, Binh Tan District Police discovered a group of people specializing in stealing car mirrors in the area. Binh Tan District Police directed urgent verification of information and investigation.

On January 17, Binh Tan District Criminal Police discovered and brought to headquarters four subjects including: Tran Anh Tuan (born 1996; permanent resident of District 8); Huynh Ngoc Ai (born 2000; permanent resident of Binh Tan district; living as husband and wife with Tuan; both currently live in Vinh Loc B commune, Binh Chanh district); Cao Van Thong (born 1993); Nguyen Thi Thanh Vy (born 1997; both permanent residents of district 8; currently in Tan Phu ward, district 7; Vy lives as husband and wife with Thong).

The subjects admitted: Tuan and Thong are related. They discussed and worked together to steal rearview mirrors of cars parked on the street at night, unattended, with assigned tasks for each subject.

They often ride on two motorbikes, passing through many roads. When they discover a car parked on the road, unattended, Tuan and Thong steal the rearview mirror; Vy and Ai stood guard, started the car and waited. After committing the theft, Vy and Ai drove Thong and Tuan away from the scene.

Stolen property will be handed over to Thong to sell to get money to distribute to the whole group. Tuan, Thong, Ai, and Vy all illegally used synthetic drugs. Tuan and Thong both have criminal records. Vy has a criminal record for illegal use of drugs.

Some of the exhibits were car rearview mirrors that were stolen by the subjects.

Initially, the subjects confessed to having committed 3 cases of property theft, on January 2, January 8 and January 17, stealing the rearview mirror of Mr. NMV’s car (born 1995; permanent resident). Binh Tan District); of Mr. HTV (born 1981; permanent resident of District 5); by Mr. NVL (born 1980; permanent resident of Binh Tan district).

Binh Tan District Police expanded their investigation at points where car mirrors were purchased from thieves. Trang Si Uyen (common name is Sung; born 1976; permanent resident of Long An province; current residence: 1803 National Highway 1, Hamlet 1, An Phu Tay commune, Binh Chanh district) even though she knew that Thong was selling the rearview mirror. It is due to theft but still bought to resell to enjoy the difference.

After buying, Uyen sold it to Vo Van Viet (born 1976; permanent resident of District 4; current residence: Vinh Hoi Residence, Ben Van Don, Ward 6, District 4) – owner of Tan Viet auto repair shop ( Address No. 369 Dinh Bo Linh, Ward 26, Binh Thanh District). Uyen has 2 previous convictions for the crime of “Consuming property obtained by another person’s crime”.

During an emergency search of Tran Anh Tuan’s residence (Vinh Loc B commune, Binh Chanh district), the police confiscated a pair of rearview mirrors from a car branded Toyota Veloz, a pair of rearview mirrors from a car branded Hyundai Accent.

The police also confiscated a pair of rearview mirrors from a gray Toyota Innova car, and 5 other pairs of unknown rearview mirrors at Trang Si Uyen’s workplace in Binh Chanh district.

During an urgent search of subject Vo Van Viet’s workplace (Tan Viet auto repair shop), the police also confiscated 2 Hyundai Santafe brand rearview mirrors and 260 car rearview mirrors of all kinds.

Ho Chi Minh City Police urge anyone who is a victim of the above subjects to contact the Police Department where the property loss occurred to report and support the investigation.
