A British couple thought they had won £2.60 (3 euros) playing EuroMillions. Afterwards they received a message from the lottery, letting them know that the couple had to check their account. It then turned out that they had won no less than 61 million pounds (or 71 million euros).

Richard Nuttall was on holiday in the Canary Islands earlier this year when he was notified that he had won £2.60 in the latest EuroMillions draw. “We can buy a piece of bacon with that,” his wife replied jokingly. A day later, Richard received another email with a message from the lottery telling him to check his account again. It turned out that they had won more than £61 million.

When they got an email from the lottery telling them to check their account again, they thought it was a scam

The couple initially thought it was a scam, but when their daughter confirmed the email was in fact real, they went crazy. Richard already bought a new BMW X5, worth £128,000. He bought it to transport his golf sticks. He also quit his job, just like his wife.

Support charity

Yet they are not going to use all that money solely for their own interests. They also plan to support a charity, namely BK’s Heroes. That institution was founded in memory of their cousin Ben King, who died at the age of 27 from the rare condition tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis. This is a kidney disease that mainly occurs in young adults.

“This charity means so much to our family and we are all involved. It was originally set up to raise money for the ward where Ben was so brilliantly cared for, but we have raised much more,” Richard told British media.

The jackpot for this draw was £123 million. The other winning ticket was sold in Spain.
