There is perhaps no athlete in the world who has suffered as much as Roman Kostomarov (47) in the last 12 months. The elite figure skater got pneumonia last January, which culminated in the amputation of his legs, part of his hand and fingers on his other hand. Recently, however, thanks to his loved ones, he finds a reason to be happy again. Like, for example, during his birthday, when he received not only kind words from his beloved Oxana (39), but also from the star Yevgeny Plushenko (41)!
This time last year he was on the brink of death. Roman Kostomarov, a famous figure skater and Olympic gold medalist, went through hell last year. His life turned 180 degrees after the amputations of his legs, part of his right hand and fingers on his left hand. He had to learn to walk, write or play sports again. However, Kostomarov faced the adversity of fate.
Now he rejoices again in everyday little things, such as the time spent with his children or his charming wife Oxana Domninová. It was his significant other who published an emotional message on the occasion of Roman’s birthday, which he had on Thursday, February 8. “I’m proud of you. He is proud of your inner strength, which I admire more and more every day. Despite the incredible challenges that cannot be described in words, even I, who am still with you, cannot feel even a fraction of what you feel and experience in your new life,” Oxana wrote on Instagram.
“You can and can smile, laugh, joke, love, create or inspire. I am happy that I can be by your side, enjoy every day and even in the hardest, most demanding, most unpleasant moments of life, feel your breath, hear your scent, feel your incredible charisma and love. I love you, I love our children, I love life. We love you a lot. All the best,” Domninová concluded her touching post on the social network.
But the wife was not the only one among the former figure skaters who wished the brave Kostomar. Yevgeny Plushenko, who in his heyday was one of the main faces of world figure skating, also spoke. “Happy birthday bro! I wish you to stay as strong as ever. I will always be by your side” stated Plushenko on Instagram for a joint photo. So it can be seen that Kostomarov’s story affected even the best figure skaters in his homeland.
