There have been allegations of promotion to the post of Deputy Director (Public Relations) feeder in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) without following the policy.

Eligibility for appointment or promotion to the post of Deputy Director (Public Relations) feeder in BSMMU is – Four years Graduation or Post Graduation in Mass Communication and Journalism from a recognized university. Also should have working experience as a journalist in a national newspaper and six years of experience in the post of Assistant Director (Public Relations) Feeder. It has been alleged that BSMMU policy mentions such qualification but it is not being followed for promotion.

In this regard, BSMMU Section Officer (Public Relations) Prashant Kumar Majumder has written to the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar to cancel the notification of the feeder post of Deputy Director (Public Relations) of the University.

Prashant Kumar Majumder said about giving the letter, appointing someone who does not have a four-year graduation or post-graduate degree in journalism and does not have the experience of the post of Assistant Director (Public Relations) as Deputy Director (Public Relations) will completely undermine the status of this post.

BSMMU officials say that this month, the current vice-chancellor of the university, Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed’s term is coming to an end. At the last minute he hastily interviews (viva) people on his shortlist for promotion to various posts. There is no such opportunity as per notification or policy. Besides, there has been such a change in various posts including Deputy Director (Law), Deputy Director (Finance Accounts), Deputy Director (Audit).

When asked about this matter, the university proctor, Professor Dr. Habibur Rahman Dulal told the media that the registrar department is working on it. They can say well.

When asked how the viva of the candidates is being taken without complying with the policy, the registrar professor Dr. Mohammad Hafizur Rahman said, I am not aware of this. However, if that happens, I will talk to the authorities.

Earlier on February 26, 2010, the recruitment circular of BSMMU Section Officer (Public Relations) was published in Daily Star newspaper. It was said that the qualification for applying for this post should be a four-year graduate or post-graduate degree holder in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism from a recognized university and at the same time should have work experience as a journalist in a national newspaper.

61st Meeting of BSMMU approved (25/6/2016) Staff (Grade-9-3) Recruitment Promotion and Promotion Rules states, Deputy Director (Public Relations), Feeder Post: Assistant Director (Public Relations), Feeder post with minimum 6 years of service experience must be No other term of equivalent is mentioned here.
