A mobile court fined eight fishermen 30 thousand rupees for raiding the Meghna river at Haimchar in Chandpur.

Haimchar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Purvita Chakma conducted the mobile court on Saturday (February 24).

Haimchar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer (Additional Duty) Md. Mahbub Rashid, On the third day of the fourth phase of the combing operation, the Upazila Fisheries Department, Coast Guard and Naval Police conducted a joint operation in Gazipur, Manipur, Katakhali, Charbhairavi areas of the Meghna River from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Saturday. During the raid, 60,000 meters of current net, a charghera net and 15 kg of jatka were seized. At the same time, eight fishermen were caught red-handed while catching jatka, cheua and other small fishes with the prohibited thick nets.

Later, the mobile court fined the arrested fishermen Tk 30,000. Seized curentjals were destroyed by fire in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and the confiscated jatkas were distributed among the local destitute, poor and distressed.
