Vilvoorde –

A worker who was working on the Vilvoorde viaduct fell from a scaffolding at a height of 25 meters on Thursday morning. Fortunately he ended up ‘only’ three meters lower. He was taken to hospital with injuries, but according to our sources his injuries are not in danger.

The incident occurred around 7:45 am. The man fell for an unknown reason when he was 25 meters high on the scaffolding. He ended up three meters lower above the Brusselsesteenweg. A major alarm was immediately raised and the fire brigade, ambulance and mosquito net arrived on the scene. The worker had to be rescued by a rescue team and was taken to hospital.

Mayor Hans Bonte (Vooruit) confirms the incident. “A worker did indeed fall from the scaffolding during the height works on the viaduct. I do not yet have any information about the condition of the victim.”

The editors learned from a good source that the victim’s injuries were expected to be minor.

Total renovation

The Werkvennootschap is currently working on a total renovation of the Vilvoorde viaduct. This happens in different phases. The works in their entirety would last until 2028. The Work Company confirms the industrial accident but cannot yet provide any further information. (dbg)
