Since February, the beneficiaries of the Universal Guaranteed Pension (PGU) will experience a significant change, since they will receive their payment with the corresponding annual adjustment, raising the maximum amount to $214,296. This adjustment comes into effect this month, marking an important milestone for those who depend on this pension.

This readjustment was calculated depending on the variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) during the period January to December 2023, which reached 3.9%, as reported by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The beginning of the payment of the Universal Guaranteed Pension with the readjustment carried out by the CPI It will start on February 1.

The maximum amount grew from $206,173 to $214,296. It should be remembered that depending on the value of their base pension, a part of the PGU amount corresponds to them, and in those cases the readjustment is applied proportionally. Those who receive payment with the adjustment will be made in the usual way, through deposit or in person.

The director(s) of the IPS, Juan José Cárcamoexpressed that “it is important that those who are 65 years old or older continue to consult for the PGU, given that every month there are new people who could apply for this benefit, either because they are old enough to do so or due to some other legal condition.”

For older people who are not beneficiaries of the PGU, they can obtain information through the Chile Atiende branches or the website.as well as in the municipalities in agreement with the IPS and in the AFPs or insurance companies to which the people are affiliated.

“The invitation is always to consult through our Chile Atiende network, and not to be left in doubt, because it is important to remember that the PGU is a benefit that requires an application process, and for that we have a variety of service channels, starting from our site www.chileatiende.cl”, explains the director(s) of the IPS, Juan José Cárcamo.

The main requirements to be a beneficiary of the PGU:

  • Be 65 or older.
  • NOT join a family group belonging to the richest 10% of Chile’s population.
  • Prove residence in the country for 20 years (continuous or discontinuous) from when the person turns 20, and also four years, within the last five years prior to the PGU application.
  • Have a calculated base pension less than the maximum pension determined by the regulations for this benefit.

It is important to remember that it is NOT necessary to be retired to apply for the PGU from the age of 65, given that both people who do not have access to a pension and those who are already retired can apply for it, as long as they meet the requirements established by law.
