Since the beginning of 2023, measles outbreaks have been observed in the European region, as well as in the neighboring countries of Turkey, the Russian Federation, Iran, Kazakhstan and Georgia.

From the Ministry of Health Publika.az-According to the information provided, in addition to this, in recent months, cases of infection related to cases imported from other countries have led to the local spread of infection in different regions of Azerbaijan. Among the cases of measles recorded in the country, there are sometimes complications in children belonging to the risk group, as well as the development of bacterial infections, delayed referrals or wrong diagnosis.

We would like to inform parents that in order to protect children’s health and prevent infections, all children between the ages of 1 and 6 should be vaccinated twice against measles, epidemic parotitis and rubella infections according to the “Calendar of preventive vaccinations” in force in the country.

Children who do not receive the 1st dose of the vaccine on time should be vaccinated as soon as possible, and when they reach the age of 6, they should receive the 2nd dose of the vaccine.

Children under 10 years of age who do not receive the 2nd dose of the vaccine on time for any reason should receive the 2nd dose of the vaccine as soon as possible. Children up to 10 years of age who did not receive both doses of the vaccine on time should receive the 1st and 2nd dose of the vaccine with an interval of at least 4 weeks.

For the vaccination of children, it is recommended to apply to the medical institutions that provide ambulatory polyclinic services to the children’s population at the place of residence.
