Late at night on January 26, the Traffic Police Patrol led a group (under the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department) to set up a checkpoint and handle vehicle drivers violating alcohol concentration at the intersection of Dien Bien Phu – Hai Ba Trung (District 3).
At the checkpoint, traffic police are divided into two groups to perform their duties. In particular, the first group organized random checks for vehicle drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. The inspection process includes motorbike, moped and car drivers. The remaining working group handles and records violations.
During 1 hour of performing the task, the working group discovered 4 vehicle drivers violating alcohol levels when participating in traffic. Among them, one case violated the “critical” level, exceeding the threshold of 0.4mg/liter of breathing air.
Specifically, at 10:10 p.m., traffic police discovered that Mr. VTTh (42 years old, residing in Thu Duc) driving motorbike BS: 58X3-578 showed signs of staggering, hiding behind vehicles that stopped at red lights. Mr. Th. said that his family had contributed to the country and wanted the traffic police to ignore the violation. At the climax, Mr. Th. tore up the signed minutes and left.

Faced with Mr. Th’s uncooperative attitude, the traffic police invited a witness to sign and temporarily sealed and impounded his vehicle. Accordingly, with his level of violation, Mr. Th. will be administratively fined 7 million VND and have their driving license revoked for 23 months.

Next, the traffic police suspected 3 cases of signs of not being alert while driving and checked for alcohol violations. All three are Mr. VVTh (driving vehicle BS: 29Y2-87…, violation of 0.242mg/liter of breathing air); Mr. HTTh (driving vehicle BS: 59X3-946.., violation of 0.196mg/liter of breathing air); Mr. LHP (driving vehicle BS: 72K1-241.., violation of 0.156mg/liter of breathing air).
Traffic police explained that driving while using alcohol is dangerous. The violator admits his mistake and agrees to sign the violation handling record. For violations of alcohol concentration that do not exceed 0.25 mg/liter of breath, the violator will be fined an administrative fine of 2.5 million VND, have his driver’s license revoked for 11 months and have his vehicle impounded for 7 days.
An official in the working group said that cases of alcohol concentration violations with an opposing and stubborn attitude to avoid punishment from the authorities often occur.
