It is towards the quarter-finals of CAN 2024 that the eyes of football fans are currently focused. This great competition does not only excite Africans because it also interests Europeans who have praised the quality of the matches from the first day. It was not the specialized newspapers like l’Equipe or France football which reported on it, but the news channels like LCI, France 24 or BFM TV were not left out and their journalists shared with their viewers the enthusiasm of supporters of teams from the African continent. This CAN 2024 has nothing to envy, in terms of intensity, of the Euro or the Copa America or why not, the World Cup.
CAN 2024: promising quarter-finals
This CAN 2024 has its share of surprises in store and has seen a shake-up of the hierarchy in African football. We found that there are no teams permanently established at the top. The logic was not respected. Ivory Coast is one of the favorites since it is the organizing country and fields internationally renowned players. She experienced many difficulties despite the unconditional support of her audience. We didn’t give much of our skin in front of the Senegalese lions, but she pushed through the suspense and qualified for the quarter-finals. We thought that for Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia or Cameroon, it would not be a walk in the park, but a fairly easy journey. All these great footballing nations have stumbled in front of opponents less posh than them. Nevertheless, the poster for these quarter-finals is tempting. There we find formations that the Barea have already faced. We will see Nigeria face Angola on Friday evening, DR Congo will face Guinea. Saturday evening, the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire will be supported by their people against Mali and finally the Bafana Bafana of South Africa will close these quarter-finals against the “blue sharks” of Cape Verde. In any case, football fans will not be able to hold back their pleasure until the end of the competition.
