The US ambassador to Singapore has been accused of misbehaving with staff and officials in his office. On Saturday (March 2), the US news agency-Reuters reported this news.

The White House said on Friday that the US ambassador to Singapore, Jonathan Coplan, had threatened his own office staff. Also, Jonathan did not travel in accordance with US State Department policy. He failed to submit $48,000 of his travel expenses on time and with proper documentation as of December 2021.

The report also stated that Jonathan also failed to appoint a competent consultant following due process. Because the consultant billed $5,650 for a furniture research project and $4,250 for a redesign of the embassy cafeteria.

The report also accused Jonathan, a political appointee, of misbehaving with Singaporean ministers and ministry staff.

These facts against Jonathan have emerged in the United States’ internal weekly report. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken these allegations against him seriously.

According to the State Department’s OIG report, Ambassador Jonathan lacked integrity, strategic planning, cooperation and communication skills. It has been requested to evaluate his leadership and office management skills and take corrective action against him if necessary.
