After his lost defamation lawsuit against American author E. Jean Carroll, American ex-president Donald Trump has deposited more than 90 million dollars (83 million euros) in bail to the court. A court document published on Friday shows that the 77-year-old ex-president will also appeal the ruling.

A court had ordered Trump to pay 83.3 million dollars (about 77 million euros) in damages for Carroll in a second civil lawsuit. A New York jury found it proven that Trump sexually abused and later defamed Carroll in the fitting room of a New York luxury store in 1996. The jury then first awarded the writer damages of 5 million dollars (4.65 million euros). Trump also appealed that decision. Trump now had to deposit the money in court, along with an additional sum for legal costs and interest.

Trump will undoubtedly be the Republican challenger to Democratic President Joe Biden in the presidential elections in November. But he is currently also on trial in various lawsuits. He was recently found guilty in a fraud trial. He must pay more than 450 million dollars.
