Film editor and teacher Alois Fišárek died today at the age of 80, winner of six Czech Lions, which he received for the films Akumulator 1, Kolja, Kanárek, Tmavomodrý svět, Kuky se vráci and in 2018 for his extraordinary contribution to Czech cinematography. Daughter Anežka Fišárková announced this to ČTK on behalf of the family.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that the Czech film editor Alois Fišárek has left us in his peaceful sleep,” stated Fišárková without further details.

Fišárek left his editing style in other well-known films, which include General school, Driving, Wonderful summers under the dog or Returnable bottles. Last year, at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, he presented the film Two Words as a Key by director David Svátek.

“I have to work because I have always worked so intensively that I have not developed any hobbies. Therefore, if I don’t have any hobbies, I prefer to work,” he told the Novinky server last year.

The son of the painter Alois Fišárek was born on January 7, 1943 in Opočné. He completed his studies at FAMU’s editing department in 1968. He worked as an editor from 1965 to 1972 at the Czechoslovak Army Filmbetween 1974 and 1996 at Krátký film.

Between 1968 and 2002 he taught at FAMU, where he headed the editing composition department, later worked as a teacher at the Miroslav Ondříček Film Academy in Písek. “No one actually knows what the editor does, I’m very happy about that, but I explain to the students that they have to take that into account,” said Fišárek.
