Owners association has stopped bus service from Bandarban to Ruma-Thanchi indefinitely. Milan Das, Office Assistant of Ruma-Thanchi-Roangchari Bus Owners Association, confirmed the matter on Sunday (February 18).

According to local sources, hill terrorists demanded annual subscription from the buses plying on Bandarban-Thanchi road a few days ago. At that time, bus service was stopped for about three to four days. Terrorists shot and injured local youth Uhla Ching Marma (35) at Rizhukpara in Ruma at 5:30 am on February 13 for non-payment of subscription. Locals were excited about this incident.

Currently, the members of these armed forces are seen practicing in different places. Fearing this, the authorities have stopped the bus service for the sake of safety.

Ruma Upazila Chairman Uhla Ching Marma said that Ruma bus station lineman Lupru Marma was beaten and seriously injured by Kukichin National Army (KNA) members at Polikapara crematorium area on Sunday morning.

President of Ruma Upazila Awami League and Chairman of Ruma Sadar Union No. 2 Shaimong Marma (Shaibong) said, ‘Kukichin Army members are now patrolling the streets in Ruma. Threatening and beating people. Due to this, no buses or vehicles are plying on Ruma to Bandarban road.’

General Secretary of Bandarban-Rowangchari-Ruma-Thanchi Motor Transport Owners Association. Nurul Alam said, ‘bus movement is normal on Bandarban, Baghmara and Rowangchari roads since morning. However, no bus has left from Ruma and Thanchi stations since morning.’ Quoting the lineman, he said, ‘Kukichin National Army (KNA) has banned the plying of buses. So the bus service is stopped.’

Law enforcement patrols have also been increased since morning. No one has complained about this yet.’ He also said that legal action will be taken if complaints are received.

Thanchi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Jasim Uddin said that there was no news of terrorists rehearsing with weapons on Thanchi road. However, due to an isolated incident in Ruma recently, buses have been stopped for safety reasons.
