This year too, hundreds of thousands of visitors experienced the unique feeling of the Island of Freedom as well as the huge changes the festival has undergone. The program was more varied than ever before, art installations and a number of decorations returned to the festival area, and compared to previous years, the festival services were also significantly improved. Next year will be the 30th year of Sziget, and we already know when: we can celebrate this exceptional event from 7 to 12 August 2024. And right after the festival ends, there is a special 48-hour advance ticket sale where you can get tickets at an extremely low price, which is half of the final amount.
Those who have been to Sziget more than once were surprised by the big change, those who visited it for the first time were drawn into the unique experience of this year’s festival. The world of mobile toilets has become a thing of the past, replaced by flushable container blocks that offer a new level of comfort in terms of functionality. Some of the stages have received a new design and bigger sound, and the exciting art installations, amazing Art of Freedom creations, have also returned. And the grass turned merrily green throughout the festival.
On the very first day, the high-energy Florence with her band The Machine set the bar high on the main stage. She fearlessly threw herself into the audience and flew across the entire width and length of the stage.
Other great experiences included a concert by one of One Direction’s Niall Horan, who played mainly his songs and one of his former band. He radiated well-being and the Czech Republic can enjoy it on March 17, 2024 in the Fortuna Sports Hall in Prague.
On the second day, Imagine Dragons also offered a spectacular spectacle, shooting confetti into the audience and the energetic singer took the audience by storm.
This year, the visitor with serial number ten million also came to Sziget. The visitor walked through the gates at the weekend and received a special bracelet. The first year of the Sziget festival took place in 1993 and was visited by a total of 43,000 people. Over the years, the festival has developed significantly and last year had more than ten times the number of visitors compared to the first year. If we add up the total number of visitors over the last thirty years, a total of 10 million people have visited Sziget, which corresponds to the population of the whole of Hungary.
Approximately 25,000 m2 of plastic and another 5,000 m2 of aluminum rails were laid to protect the soil on the island. In the days leading up to the Sziget festival, a considerable amount of rain fell in the area, approximately 70-80 mm. The organizers, with the help of 80 people, cleaned the area in 3 days with the help of 10 machines and 7 pumps.
