Director of Hajj Development, Directorate General of Hajj and Umrah (PHU) Arsad Hidayat said that this year the temperature in Saudi Arabia is predicted to reach 50 degrees Celsius. “So during the Hajj season, especially when the congregation is carrying out worship at the peak of the Armuzna Hajj (Arafah, Mina and Muzdalifah), the temperature in Saudi Arabia can reach 50 degrees. This really needs to be paid attention to by the congregation,” said Arsad Hidayat.

Arsad gave an explanation during the Technical Guidance for the 2024 Saudi Arabian Hajj Organizing Officers (PPIH) at the Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory, Jakarta Tumur, asking Indonesian Hajj pilgrims to prepare themselves to anticipate the hot weather in Saudi Arabia.

He advised Indonesian Hajj pilgrims not to force themselves to pursue sunnah worship during the sweltering heat in Saudi Arabia. Arsad advised Hajj pilgrims to save energy at the start of their arrival to the holy land, whether in Medina or Mecca, to prepare themselves for the peak of the Hajj pilgrimage, starting from Wukuf at Arafah.

He appealed to the Hajj pilgrims not to force themselves to perform the 40-hour Arbaeen prayer at the Nabawi Mosque during the hot weather, because praying anywhere in the holy land has the same reward. Especially when the conditions are very hot, the congregation is asked to consider goodness and take care of themselves, including their health. “It is important for the congregation to pay attention when carrying out worship services throughout the Hajj season to consider afdal while ignoring the benefit of the soul,” he said.

Before leaving for the Holy Land, Hajj pilgrims are asked to prepare the items they need to anticipate hot air temperatures. Congregants are advised to prepare supporting items to anticipate hot weather in addition to preparing their physical condition to stay fit during the Hajj pilgrimage until the peak of the Hajj.

Some of the items that Indonesian pilgrims need to prepare include bringing an umbrella, wearing lip balm, drinking water or Zamzam often to avoid dehydration, bringing sunglasses, wearing sandals and taking vitamins.
