Sadness over the death of Christos Lanaras

The municipal council of the Municipality of North Tzoumerki and personally the mayor Nikos Vaitsis express their deep sadness for the death of the honorary president of the Federation of Brotherhoods of Tzoumerkiots Christos Lanaras.

The municipal council convened in an extraordinary meeting and, after taking into account the multifaceted personality of the deceased, who was the longest-serving president of the Federation of Tzoumerkiots, his contribution to the preservation of the cultural elements and cultural tradition of Tzoumerki, as well as his contribution to the fight to prevent the construction of large hydroelectric projects on the rivers of Tzoumerka, decided unanimously to express his condolences to his relatives and observe a minute’s silence during the first regular meeting of the municipal council after his funeral.

“Christos Lanaras was the longest-serving president of the Tzoumerkiots Federation and his love for Tzoumerkas is an example for all of us who deal with the public. We will remember him for his contribution to the preservation of our cultural tradition, but also for his many years of fighting against the construction of dams on the Tzoumerka rivers. Let the soil that will cover him be light”, says N. Vaitsis in his statement, expressing his condolences to the relatives of the deceased.
