Rotterdam – An elderly man was stabbed seemingly out of nowhere on the Delfshavenseweg cycle path in Rotterdam on Thursday morning. The alerted emergency services resuscitated the victim, after which she was rushed to hospital under police guard.
According to the police, a 46-year-old Polish man was arrested. The man does not have a permanent residence in the Netherlands.
Shortly after 10am, other people who were near the cycle path along the water of the Schie saw that the elderly man walking there had been stabbed, seemingly out of nowhere. The victim was seriously injured. Photos taken by photojournalists show a large puddle of blood on the cycle path.
Emergency services
The emergency services were called en masse. Doctors from the trauma helicopter flew in to provide first aid. In addition to the police, several ambulances, the Royal Military Police and the firefighters also arrived on site.
The man, originally from Poland, was arrested in the area by the police, alerted by passers-by. According to the police, the victim’s condition remains “worrying”. Police have launched an investigation into the cycle path and are speaking to witnesses.
