OMAPI is the body in charge of the administration of industrial property in Madagascar.

A field as vast as it is complex, intellectual property – bringing together inventive activities and intellectual creations, including industrial property and literary and artistic property – refers above all to the law and rules governing and protecting creation, inventions and innovations, in other words, the creations of the mind. Patents, trademarks and copyright are among the forms best known to the general public in Madagascar, expressing the rights that intellectual property guarantees to its owners. Today, World Intellectual Property Day, innovation and creativity are particularly highlighted and linked to sustainable development goals, in accordance with the theme chosen for the 2024 edition: “Intellectual property and the Sustainable Development Goals: building our common future through innovation and creativity”if last year, this day was more focused on women and intellectual property.

This year, attention is focused on the roles of intellectual property in putting forward innovative solutions to the challenges of sustainable development in the socio-economic and environmental fields.

For Madagascar, the body in charge of the administration of industrial property is the Malagasy Industrial Property Office (OMAPI) while literary and artistic property falls under the remit of the Malagasy Copyright Office (OMDA). ).
