Podcast: Žižka as a medieval loser? Jákl surprisingly reacted to the harsh criticism

The most expensive Czech film aroused conflicting reactions. His enthusiastic admirers are lined up on one wagon wall, and on the other critics, who will not leave a single eye on the historical drama about Jan Žižek. Director and producer Petr Jákl exclusively listened to harsh judgments in Kulové Blesk and elegantly swept them off the table. What he said?

“Director Petr Jákl is responsible for the honest but dysfunctional medieval loser. It lacks any legitimate myth-building, cohesive context, or memorable scenes. The film will go down in history for the wrong reasons,” quoted foreign review moderator Marek Slovák to a nodding Petr Jákl.

Jákl had already been thinking about a feature film about an undefeated warlord from the 14th century around 2010. It was supposed to hit theaters earlier, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, its premiere was postponed until the summer of 2022. The picture for 500 million crowns was also shown in cinemas in the USA under the name Medieval and, according to many foreign websites, it was not very successful. Petr Jákl respects that everyone has their own opinion and agrees with some criticisms.
