Punishments for violating the legislation on prevention of domestic violence are being tightened in Azerbaijan.

Publika.az reports that the draft amendment to the Code of Administrative Offenses was discussed in the first reading at today’s session of the parliament.

Thus, it is currently stated in the Code that the application of illegal restrictions of an economic nature on domestic grounds, i.e. the deprivation by a person of the property and income owned, at the disposal or use of another person, creating economic dependence, maintaining such dependence or abusing it a fine in the amount of one hundred to three hundred manats is imposed for targeted actions.

A fine in the amount of 300 to 500 manats is imposed for domestic violence, i.e. intentional mental pressure by a person on another person or actions aimed at creating intolerable mental conditions.

With the amendment, for the repeated commission of the above-mentioned offenses within one year from the date of entry into force of the decision on administrative punishment by the person who received administrative punishment, a fine in the amount of five hundred to seven hundred manats is imposed, or depending on the circumstances of the case, from sixty to one hundred hours of public detention, taking into account the identity of the person who committed the offense cases or administrative arrest for a period of up to fifteen days will be applied.
