The attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus is an unacceptable violation of Syria’s sovereignty and undermines its stability and security. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this in a statement. Aljazeera news agency reported this information in a report.
The attack, the statement said, marked an “already escalation of instability in the region”. Pakistan’s foreign ministry has urged the UN Security Council to ‘stop Israel from its misadventures in the region’.
Pakistan offered its condolences to the families of those killed in the attack, the people and government of Iran.
Earlier, on Monday (April 1), Israel attacked the Iranian consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria, and turned it into rubble.
Syrian and Iranian media reported that Israel carried out the attack. The attack could further escalate tensions in the Middle East, with Iran and its allies stepping up attacks against Israel.
A Lebanese intelligence source said Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, was among those killed in the Israeli strike. Iranian state television has claimed that several Iranian diplomats have been killed.
On October 7 last year, the Israeli military launched a counterattack in the besieged Gaza Strip in response to an attack by Iran-backed Palestinian group Hamas.
At the same time, Israeli forces have also carried out airstrikes against Lebanon’s Hezbollah fighters and Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Syria. These groups are supporters of the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
