Vienna (OTS) – “Herbert Kickl’s denial of reality comes at the expense of the safety of the Austrian population. The FPÖ party chairman disregards the facts and deliberately spreads false information. ‘Sky Shield’ is neither a NATO project nor does it contradict Austrian neutrality. The only contradiction is between Kickl and his Salzburg party colleagues. Because while the FPÖ federal party chairman rejects ‘Sky Shield’, the Salzburg FPÖ defense spokesman Volker Reifenberger considers the stationing of a missile protection shield in Salzburg to be sensible, necessary and militarily correct. Herbert Kickl should ensure clarity within his party,” says the People’s Party’s defense spokesman, Friedrich Ofenauer.
“Neutral Switzerland will also take part in the “Sky Shield” procurement initiative – that alone is evidence enough to see that Herbert Kickl is wrong with his statements. Kickl’s security strategy is reminiscent of the Middle Ages: He wants to build castles and ride horses. Kickl obviously doesn’t care that this doesn’t contribute to the security of the Austrian population,” continues Ofenauer, who concludes by emphasizing: “The federal government will continue to guarantee the security of Austrians. I am grateful to Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer for giving the issue of security a central place in the Austrian plan. The People’s Party is the party of security in Austria.”
