A new version of the Puerto de Ideas Antofagasta Science Festival is approaching. From April 18 to 21, this unique meeting will be held, where the public will be able to meet through talks, conversations and shows, with the most outstanding scientists and thinkers of today, who will come from various countries.
The most recent and impactful discoveries in fields such as astronomy, nature, paleontology, neuroscience and artificial intelligence will be addressed in an accessible way and in a festive and democratic atmosphere, where people of all ages and interests will be able to actively participate. free.

One of the first guests announced is Dutch-British physicist Andre Geim, awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010 together with his peer Konstantin Novoselov for their innovative work on graphene, a material that they managed to extract from graphite that has extraordinary properties and of great interest for various technological applications.
Geim also achieved the levitation of a frog using the magnetic properties of water, for which he won an Ig Nobel, an American parody of the Swedish prizes awarded for the most extravagant research, becoming the only person to win both awards.
The British oceanographer Susannah Buchan will also be part of the festival presented together with Escondida | BHP. She is recognized for her research on the ecology and acoustics of blue whales in the Aysén Region and fin and blue whales in the Coquimbo and Atacama Regions, which aim to understand the dynamics of whales, monitoring their habitats acoustically, in order to provide excellent scientific information for the development of conservation strategies, sustainable tourism and noise reduction in marine environments.

Another of the three announced guests is Argentine scientific journalist and writer Federico Kukso. The specialist in the history of science from Harvard University is the author of successful popular science books, including Everything you need to know about science (Ediciones Paidós, 2015), Dinosaurs at the end of the world (Penguin Random House, 2018) and the recent Odorama: Cultural History of Smell (Taurus, 2019).
In addition, he publishes about science, culture and technology in different media around the world, such as Le Monde Diplomatique (France), El País (Spain) and Scientific American magazine (United States).

From Thursday, April 18 to Sunday, April 21, you can visit the Paseo por la Ciencia at Sitio Cero (Av. Grecia s/n, next to Mallplaza Antofagasta), the great science fair that takes place within the framework of the Festival. thanks to Port of Antofagasta.
There dozens of the country’s leading institutions, dedicated to science, will be in charge of interactive experiences aimed at children and young people, and all those who want to approach science from a different experience. There will be interactive stands, exhibitions, dynamic experiences, talks, workshops, storytelling and much more.
