It is planned to diversify Baku’s touristic offers and create new touristic destinations.
Publika.az reports that this was reflected in the Master Plan for the development of Baku until 2040.
According to the document, until 2040 in the field of tourism and hospitality 4 % growth is predicted.
The main objectives set within the framework of the Master Plan for this economic sector are the identification of priority areas for sustainable and economically efficient tourism investments, as well as the greater diversification of tourist activities and service structures so that people can operate in this area throughout the year.
These proposals should be applied to tourism activities both in general and in different segments, and should be organized according to local and foreign tourists:
– Sustainable development of the city
– Protection of the Soviet heritage with the aim of presenting it as a modern cultural heritage;
– Expansion of the footpath system. Improving the environment of footpaths, promoting the use of walking and cycling as a means of transport. Urban and environmental regeneration
– Restoration of water environment and natural value of lakes, revival of them as recreation area and natural habitat, improvement of wetland environment;
– Expansion of green centers and recreation areas, determination of the protection zone of natural landscape areas. Caring for the architectural face and historical heritage of the city
– Preservation of Baku’s characteristic features;
– Preservation of the local architectural style of Absheron and providing solutions for their modern interpretation in the design of new buildings. The new urban economy
– Strengthening the tourism and culture sector by introducing additional new economic groups such as culture and creative industries;
– Harmonious development of coastal settlements and new recreational activities. The transformation of Baku into a tourist destination for every season of the year, the diversification and expansion of tourist activities include:
– beach tourism;
– cultural ecotourism;
– Baku Boulevard;
– national parks;
– creative tourism;
– experiential tourism (travel to study the country’s history, people, local cuisine and culture);
– business trips;
– recreation;
– sports tourism;
– organization of free time;
– museums;
– “MICE” tourism (meetings, events);
– conferences and exhibitions;
– medical tourism.
In order to develop all these areas, it is necessary to have the connection between the urban areas and the natural value areas of Absheron.
