Every person has a mass of subcutaneous fat on their body, but it varies greatly in women. For example, the fat mass in women is up to 25% of the total body weight, and in men it is only 15%.

Publika.az reports that endocrinologist Marina Maksimova explained that fat begins to accumulate faster in some areas and explained the reasons for this.

“First of all, fat accumulation depends on the structure of fat cells. The presence of certain molecular structures – catecholamine adrenal alpha and beta receptors on the surface of the membranes of such cells is also an important factor. The latter activates lipogenesis (fat synthesis requiring glycerol and fatty acids) and lipolysis (fat breakdown process) starts its processes. The processes are different, but have complementary mechanisms,” the expert said in an interview with aif.ru.

In addition, the unevenness of body fat is related to the distribution of these receptors. For example, there are significantly more receptors in the chin, neck, and upper chest than in the fat cells of the abdomen, hips, and thighs, and this allows for a more effective fight against fat. At the same time, it is extremely difficult to get rid of belly fat and bulges.

Women have nine times more alpha receptors than beta receptors in their lower body, which is why they get their rounded shape. At the same time, the fat on the male abdomen has similar properties – it has twice as many alpha receptors, so adipose tissue is mainly collected in this zone and disappears with great difficulty.
