It started to look like a roast. How Gilles De Coster playfully put his finger on the wound: that group spot is meager. The first assignment in Caccamo already earned 1,200 euros. Although it could actually have been 2,400 euros.

The group split into two parts. Michael, Charlotte and Bernard tried to master five defensive techniques from the local fencing sport. At the same time, Stéphanie and Senne were carried around the city in a coffin. The three fencers had to find out at which church the two coffins would be placed, and reach it before the pastor had finished his eulogy.
The real voice
Stéphanie and Senne were not allowed to rest completely. Among other things, they had to link five murderers to their victim, while in the coffin they asked for help from the Sicilians in broken English. Not easy, but they still managed to link John Lennon to Mark Chapman and Julius Caesar to Brutus. This adds 1,200 euros to the pot. They then had to guess which five Dutch songs were played during their funeral procession by the marching band that accompanied them. There they guessed two performers, and another 1,200 euros was added.

Theoretically anyway. With the right defensive techniques, the fencers could have churches deleted from the map. But when Bernard could not cut the bamboo stick open with a pocket knife to read which technique they should use, Charlotte chose the wrong defense. With half of the prize money to be won, they eventually had the last incorrect church deleted, so they finally arrived at the right building just in time.
12,240 euros in the group pot, Gilles De Coster still thinks it is not enough. So he donates 3,000 euros. Unfortunately, this is not out of charity, because the mole wants to strike. He had promised to make his or her voice heard. Unfiltered. The five candidates must make a bid with the donated money. “The winner is the one with the second highest bid,” says De Coster. “Whatever remains of those 3,000 euros will go to the group pot.”
It is Michaël who comes out on top with 2,600 euros. He does indeed hear the mole’s voice, but also those of the other candidates. All votes were generated with artificial intelligence. Except the mole’s. To listen to it again, he sacrificed the remaining money. Another assignment with zero euros as a result.

Tears
With Charlotte that just became a bit too much. She offered the lowest amount, 200 euros. “I thought we were in the same mindset: all against the mole. It’s just too much for me now.” In the car, tears of disappointment flowed from her fellow candidates. Bernard in particular was a bit uncomfortable in the car.
To cope with that situation, they went to the wellness, but the rest did not last long. Their mole book turned out to be stolen. Gilles De Coster was waiting for them at the edge of a forest for a paintball assignment. Commitment? Saving their mole books from destruction. They dangled over a fire. The only thing keeping them away from the flames were three red threads. With their paintball guns they had to fend off attackers with a knife in three rounds.

Each saved booklet could yield 1,000 euros. Only the number of bullets was limited. Everyone started with six. During the first attack against six men, a common thread snapped. Then they discovered that sacrificing a mole book could yield a code for a safe containing thirty rounds of ammunition. They decided to give up the booklet with number 1 on it. Senne’s book, as it turned out.
In the second attack there were nine attackers, this time with quads. Once again a wire broke. To refill their bullets, the candidates went to a shooting range. They could each aim once at one of the five numbers to find out whose book was hidden behind which number. Stéphanie hit number three, and heard her own name. She decided to give up the book.
She won sympathy points among the other candidates. Especially when they managed to keep the third thread safe. 3,000 euros in the pot, which now stands at 15,340 euros. But doing an elimination test without a mole booklet turned out not to be that easy. Stéphanie got a red screen and had to leave the game. Much to her regret.
