French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has stepped back after long-standing protests by farmers across the country and prepared a new package of measures that includes 150 million euros in support for farmers.

Publika.az reports that farmers in France forced the government to withdraw with their protests. Gabriel Attal said in his statement: “Now the question is being asked all over Europe: Does our agriculture have a future? Of course, the answer is clear.”

Attal has promised that there will be no new pesticide ban until a solution is found.

Attal reiterated that France will continue to oppose the EU signing a free trade agreement with the South American Common Market (MERCOSUR):

“France’s acceptance of this agreement is not a matter of discussion.”

He said that the government’s newly announced measures are aimed at restoring the value of food and increasing farmers’ incomes, protecting them from unfair competition and making their daily lives easier.

Speaking after Attal, Agriculture Minister Marc Fesneau announced a package of 2 billion euros to provide loans to farmers.
