Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Samant Lal Sen. That is why he requested the National Parliament members to stay with him.
The minister said this while replying to a supplementary question by Opposition Chief Whip Mujibul Haque Chunnu in the National Parliament session on Thursday (February 29). Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.
In a supplementary question, Mujibul Haque Chunnu said, a driver in the Ministry of Health becomes the owner of one hundred crore rupees. An account assistant along with his wife became the owner of Rs 300 crore, smuggled the money to Australia and the ACC also proved it. You (Health Minister) have taken the initiative to evict illegal clinics and hospitals. I don’t know if you can, but you need to. Do you have the courage and will to resolve the campaign uncompromisingly to the end?
In response to Chunnu’s question, the health minister said, I will say one thing in response to your question – I can. If you MPs are with me I can definitely do it. All I want to say is, visit the clinics, diagnostic centers in your area, visit them and see if they have all the facilities, whether they have licenses or not.
He said, I always make one thing clear – human life is but one, if this life is lost in wrong treatment, it will not come back. So please help me, tell me where is any illegal clinic. I am not in favor of closing all hospitals, hospitals will remain, but if hospitals have proper equipment and where they are supposed to do, then surely hospitals will continue.
In reply to the supplementary question of Tarana Halim, Member of Parliament for reserved women’s seat, the Health Minister said that when there was arson in the country, when people were being set on fire in buses and cars, all the patients had 30-40 percent burns. Many had burned airways, many died, traumatized. This mental trauma is very important.
He said that the person who used to drive a bus or truck will remember that place only when he goes there. It is very difficult for him to come out of mental trauma. We talked to Dhaka University and hired a psychologist. But their greatest need is rehabilitation. If they are properly rehabilitated, they may be released from the mental pacer.
