The debate between Péter Magyar and Judit Varga at the end of 2020 became a press topic even before the former Minister of Justice gave an interview to Péter Hajdú. András Dezső, a journalist from HVG (who has since left), also obtained the police report on this earlier, and HVG has already published certain details from it. Péter Magyar then claimed that his dispute with his ex-wife was falsely described in the document.

Now Mandiner has published the multi-page report in almost its entirety, from which certain personal data have only been hidden here and there. The newspaper wrote: they decided to publish it “because, after a long consideration, we believe that public opinion […] you have the right to know what the eye-witness and eyewitness police officer acting directly on behalf of the authority experienced on that ominous December day” (at the same time, HVG was also accused of “toning down” its content).

Judit Varga originally waived personal protection – then changed her mind

At the beginning of the report presented by the newspaper, it is stated that Judit Varga originally waived personal protection (entitled to her as a minister) in an official statement for the period between December 24, 2020 and January 3, 2021, before the family quarrel,

however, on 12/28/2020, it was indicated by the personal insurance company of that day […] that you are expected to need our services the next morning.

“2020. On 12.29 at 09:48, the protected person sent an SMS asking us to pick him up in Budapest […] to the private apartment located at no., where we arrived at 10:25 a.m. At that time, he retracted his resignation verbally and informed me that in the afternoon he would travel to Miskolc with his 2 younger children as part of a private program, where they would visit his parents.” The police then took him to the house where the fight later took place.

After getting out of the car, she called me aside and asked me to accompany her to the apartment, as her marriage is having serious problems and her husband is expected to react aggressively to the fact that she wants to take the children to their grandparents in Miskolc

– they wrote in the report, according to which Judit Varga also noted that her husband might not want to let her in or out of the house.

Noises could be heard from the apartment during the fight

Then the fight began, in connection with which the police officer recording the report stated:

CONSTANTLY, INCREASINGLY FORCING SHOUTING, KNOCKING AND SNAPS COULD BE HEARD FROM THE APARTMENT, AND JUDIT VARGA SHOUTED ONCE TO “LET HIM GO!”.

The policeman who made the report also saw that Judit Varga was “trying to pack clothes and luggage” on the window sill of the bedroom, while Péter Magyar tried to prevent this and pull her back into the apartment.

At this, Judit Varga continued to shout, “Let me go! If you close the door on me and don’t let me out, I’ll climb out of the window!”

“I will overthrow the entire government, this will be the divorce of the century, the scandal of the country!”

The report also states that Péter Magyar used obscene expressions to Judit Varga, disobeyed the police’s orders, and obstructed the police’s work. According to the report, Magyar said: in his opinion, Judit Varga wanted to kidnap her children with the help of the police, and threatened the policemen who participated in this with reporting them to their superiors.

At this point, he made the statement (previously reported by HVG) that he would overthrow the entire government. To the police officer who took action against him – who informed him that it was his duty to protect the minister’s life, physical integrity and human dignity – he said:

What do you say about it? You have nothing to do with it. Get out of my apartment. Won’t you go? It will be a huge scandal, which you can do yourself. I will overthrow the entire government, this will be the divorce of the century, the scandal of the country!

Péter Magyar told the policeman. Meanwhile, according to the report, Judit Varga tried to reassure her husband and told him that the children would be safe with their grandparents while they discussed their differences. “Meanwhile, her husband shouted at her aggressively and increasingly loudly,” the report reads.

According to the report, at this point, Péter Magyar also talked about immediately calling his acquaintances in the media, challenging the RTL Klub staff, and broadcasting the events live on Facebook if Judith Varga did not stop.

What was Péter Magyar’s phone looking for with Judit Varga?

In the document, it was then written that the policeman finally put Judith Varga in the police car, and according to the report, Péter Magyar got into his own car and stood cross-legged in front of the police car. From the car, she continued to “yell and threaten” constantly, claiming that the bodyguards wanted to kidnap her children.

He then jumped out of the car and tried to open the police car door. According to the report, Péter Magyar then demanded “that we give him his mobile phone, which is with his wife”. At that time, his wife gave the phone to the police officer, who “got out of the car” and gave it to Magyar.

After that, the police car tried to go around Péter Magyar’s car by turning sideways, before he “crossed again with a sudden maneuver”.

Meanwhile, he was constantly “yelling and threatening”. Finally, the police vehicle managed to leave the bins aside, but Péter Magyar chased them, cut in front of them with a sudden maneuver on Kútvölgyi út, and overtook the police car at high speed. They all went to the apartment where Judit Varga wanted to take her children to her parents.

The policeman had to stop Péter Magyar – who accused Judit Varga of sleeping with the policeman

“Getting out of the vehicles, all three of us went to the door of the apartment, where Dr. Péter Magyar continued to shout obscenities, in which he repeated the previous threats and accused me of committing crimes. I informed him that I was not going to let him into the apartment, and he tried to avoid me, so I grabbed the side of the gate and held him out with my arm until the protected person entered and closed the gate,” the report said.

Péter Magyar then again threatened to challenge the RTL Club and embarrass his wife. Moreover, he then made a surprising statement about the policeman himself.

He then turned to me and continued to yell. He threatened that if I didn’t let him into the apartment, I would be responsible for the crimes committed, then he accused me of having sexual relations with his wife

wrote the police officer who made the report.

After that, Péter Magyar took out his phone and – while repeatedly threatening to overthrow the government – recorded a video of the policeman. The policeman told him to stop when Magyar “started to run away” from him, but he continued filming. The man in uniform claimed that he could not make a video because “with this action, his wife’s dignity would be seriously violated” and that he could not allow her to do so.

“I then grabbed his cell phone with my right hand and tried to take it out of his hands, while I again told him to stop the transmission immediately, which caused him to do so, then he put the phone away and continued to insult and threaten me,” the police officer wrote. In the meantime, Judit Varga’s brother-in-law came out of the house and tried to calm Péter Magyar down, but with little success.

Finally, Judit Varga called the police from her apartment and asked them to go to “some nearby street where her husband can’t see us”, because as long as they are there in front of the house, Magyar will not leave either. Péter Magyar then left the scene, and the police returned and took Judith Varga and her children to Miskolc.

Judit Varga told the police that their relationship had been bad for a long time – and she was informed that this report would be prepared

At the end of the document, it is also stated that the minister discussed what happened in Miskolc with the police officer who made the report. “She informed me that her relationship with her husband had deteriorated a long time ago and that such incidents have become permanent in their home, during which she is subjected to constant verbal aggression, and the children are also suffering from this condition,” the document reads.

At that time, the minister was informed that a written report would be prepared on the incident, but “due to the extremely sensitive content of what happened, it would be classified according to the rules of secret file management” and only authorized persons would be able to see it. Judit Varga took note of this and thanked her, and then they also agreed that “if we meet her husband, we will always notify her, and we will only let her into her parents’ or brother-in-law’s private apartment if they agree to this.”

At the very end of the report, the police officer concluded by saying that, in his opinion, Judit Varga “tried to handle the situation calmly”, “remained calm compared to the seriousness of the incident”, but “according to her statement, she was visibly afraid, and without our presence she would have been in an extremely vulnerable situation”.

On the other hand, Péter Magyar “constantly behaved aggressively and threatened”, endangered the integrity of his surroundings, and “his aggressive, intimidating and threatening behavior was capable of causing alarm and offense in others”, they wrote.

Péter Magyar responded, András Dezső confirmed

To Telex’s question, András Dezső confirmed that the report published on Mandiner is indeed the same as the report he received earlier. He added that he managed to verify that the report was indeed prepared on the day that is also stated in the document, just as he also verified from other sources that Judit Varga was under personal protection on that day.

Péter Magyar did not respond to the published report on his social media page, but he responded several times in the comments under the articles shared on Facebook and wrote: “Yes, this is still the falsified report, 90% of which is a lie and which was leaked as a crime. But that doesn’t matter to propagandists and criminals, does it, Zoli Szalai? Let’s say it’s true that he hit me and I never hit him. And also that the policeman committed a crime when he did not allow me to visit my children” (Magyar is referring to Zoltán Szalai, who is also known as the editor of Mandiner.hu).
