Index – Interior – Péter Magyar published the audio recording, calling for demonstrations, while Judit Varga also spoke

After the resignation of President Katalin Novák and Judit Varga, Péter Magyar, ex-husband of former Minister of Justice Judit Varga, former head of the Student Loan Center, first expressed messages critical of the government on his Facebook page, then in several interviews and at a demonstration he organized. His previous speeches have been collected here.

Péter Magyar was heard for the first time last week, on Wednesday, as a witness at the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office, where he was accompanied by his legal representatives, including former Minister of Justice Péter Bárándy.

After his hearing, he made three statements about the Völner-Schadl case:

  • George Schadl He was a man of Propaganda Minister Antal Rogán.
  • The government already knew before the suspicion and detention that criminal proceedings and secret surveillance were taking place, and Pál Völner was also informed of this. “I couldn’t say exactly who knew what and who informed whom.”
  • Antal Rogán and/or Antal Rogán’s people entered the prosecutor’s office and manipulated, rewrote, and copied the prosecutor’s documents.

The prosecution called it an impossibility that “he withheld evidence in the named case, or that anyone would have destroyed the evidence in the prosecution’s possession.” At his second hearing on Tuesday, Péter Magyar promised to publish and hand over to the prosecutor’s office what he believed to be probative audio recordings.

Transcript of the audio recording

Péter Magyar went to the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office at 9 o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, a huge media interest awaited him in front of the entrance of the building, while he published on his Facebook and YouTube pages the audio recording on which he and Judit Varga can be heard. The transcript of this:

Hungarian: Judit, returning for a moment to what you said earlier…

Varga: What did I say?

Hungarian: About Schadl, that aaa… you said… that you started to say something, that Rogán said something that was so strange, but how do you say that he advised something about what not to do or how to do it, only then I just left.

Varga: All you have to do is for Dani to go over to the prosecutor’s office and ask how it is […]

Hungarian: Well, what else?

Varga: Because they also have a copy of these.

Hungarian: And you didn’t see it, or the press already saw it.

Varga: Well, in fact, they probably already gave it to you, and in principle they reviewed it last year…

Hungarian: You mean the Rogáns?

Varga: Yeah, there’s nothing wrong with that, but…

Hungarian: But this is what Detti Martonovics said [Martonovics Bernadett, az IM Civilisztikai és Igazságügyi Kodifikációs Főosztályának akkori vezető kormányfőtanácsosa – a szerk.]that there is nothing wrong, but things were pulled out…

Varga: Of course, they pulled themselves out, Detti Martonovics…

Hungarian: In the original docs, or just what was published?

Varga: They recommended to the prosecutors what should be removed, but not all of them followed this.

Hungarian: And now they tell your man to go in and see what’s in there, is there anything else that might be in there?

Varga: Well, actually the problem is that there are new documents in it now, because it seems…

Hungarian: Yes, because they listen to it afterwards when they are in prison…

Varga: Until indictment, yes.

Hungarian: Yes, and if Schadl is not so central, but because he was their man, Schadl… and Gergő and Roga said this, then why didn’t they save him? Or why did they let him in? And if, on top of that, his mother and father worked there at that service…

Varga: They had no more options… That’s the big problem.

Hungarian: Is the prosecution independent?

Varga: Yes, because Polt doesn’t…

Hungarian: But it’s a… so it’s a military organization…

Varga: No.

Hungarian: It’s like the police.

Varga: No. This clearly shows that this could have happened because Polt is not the master of the situation within the prosecutor’s office.

Hungarian: So someone eavesdropped on something, and then they couldn’t get it out of the files anymore…

Varga: Yes Yes. He started, and then after that, the facts and the evidence began to accumulate more and more rudely. Then they told Völner to stop, he didn’t stop…

Hungarian: Wait, you said they told him.

Varga: Well, they already told him in the spring, well…

Hungarian: Yes. It’s not… it’s not…

(The recording ends here.)

Judit Varga: There was a lot of verbal and physical violence

In her reaction published on her Facebook page, Judit Varga said, among other things, that

shock. Péter Magyar really did it. He’s been blackmailing me with this for over a year. Péter Magyar made a secret audio recording of his former spouse, me, in our shared home, and now he used it to achieve his political goals. Such a person is not worthy of any trust. The man I gifted with 3 sons was able to do this. The man who I gave countless chances to start over with love and hope during the terrible years of relationship violence did this to me. I wouldn’t wish that feeling on anyone. I look at this cruel face, listen to this measured voice in last night’s interview, and I get the chills. He lies and manipulates. Stomach-turner. I remember everything I had to go through in the last 16 years. He terrorized me before and he still hasn’t stopped. And he continues his games. As I understand it, he is eavesdropping on his own wife to protect his own family. But now he prefers to betray them, and maybe the homeland can be saved this way. What is going on here? What is this madness?

The former justice minister also commented that “I remember that period well. Because even then there was plenty of verbal and physical violence. The memory of one such incident in January is vivid in my mind, when I spent the evening with my sister. He was having fun somewhere else, in a company. Of the two of us, I got home earlier. I went to bed and woke up around two in the morning to find him coming home. He came into the bedroom in a frenzy, turned on the light, and I heard him in a heavily drunken voice, lashing out with a selection of insults, that I imagine I’m going to discredit him in front of his friends because he couldn’t reach me on the phone.”

Judit Varga continued by saying that “I used the method I had developed over the years, that it is better not to speak at such times, and I remained as I was, lying on my side with my back to him, waiting for him to calm down in the absence of answers. But he didn’t stop. Screaming and cursing, she pulled down the books on top of the headboard one by one and slammed them against my back. Some of the books fell through me and landed on the floor next to me. I remember well, because the next morning I tidied up. Then he took off his pants and cut them to me along with the belt. I felt the buckle hitting my back. I tried to crouch smaller and smaller and waited for the next blow, I was afraid that it would hit my spine, but I didn’t dare to move. Meanwhile, I was thinking of a nice melody to end this scene as soon as possible. Because I had plenty of routine in this. My listening came in, once it was over, he went out into the living room and laid down on the couch, where he eventually fell asleep. It was a terrible feeling. But I wasn’t interested then. I decided to divorce him a long time ago.”

On behalf of the government, Gergely Gulyás reacted to the audio recording. The minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office believed: “A lot of ado about nothing! The balloon popped! A family dispute with a bullied wife has nothing to do with public life. Péter Magyar is the new Márki-Zay! The only difference is that Péter Márki-Zay did not terrorize his wife.”

Péter Magyar announced a demonstration and would run in the EP elections

“To divert attention from my ex-wife’s statements on the audio recording, which shook the rule of law to its foundations, she put out the collection of lies written in advance by Antal Rogán in time for my hearing at the prosecutor’s office. Of course, what is written here is not true, it is considered defamation committed in public. No, Judit, you didn’t say these things because I wanted to hear them, but because you also knew that you were working for the mafia. As you know now, and you dare not go against them. I think don’t be afraid, the truth will set you free. A country would stand behind you,” Péter Magyar wrote on his Facebook page in his reaction to Judit Varga’s post.

Péter Magyar told about the hearing in front of the prosecutor’s office building: they listened to the recordings sentence by sentence, the prosecutors had questions for him about it, and he answered them. Regarding his ex-wife, he said: he also invited Judith Varga to go to the prosecutor’s office with her, but she refused.

Péter Magyar would also summon Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as a witness, but at the same time he stated: Judit Varga and Gergely Gulyás had no role in the Schadl-Völner case, they can only be witnesses.

The former head of the Student Loan Center believes that the audio recording he published

the biggest political and legal scandal of the last thirty years, the biggest that has come to light and for which such clear evidence is available.

In response to a journalist’s question, Péter Magyar also stated that he had found so many audio recordings in this case so far. Later, he also revealed that they are running in this year’s European Parliament elections, but it was not revealed with the help of which party. Although he started his movement under the name of Talpra Magyarok közösénet, a registered party is required to run in the EP elections. Péter Magyar called a demonstration for Tuesday evening in Markó Street, in front of the General Prosecutor’s Office building, from where they would march to Kossuth Square and demand the resignation of the government.
