Inauguration of Preventive Oncology Department in Public Health to prevent cancer – 2024-02-11 16:47:25

Cancer Prevention (Preventive Oncology) Department has been launched at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital at Dhanmondi No. 6 of the capital. The department was inaugurated on Tuesday (February 6) under the chairmanship of Gonoshasthaya Kendra Charitable Trust Professor Altafunnesa.

The meeting was addressed by the project coordinator and chief professor of the respected prevention department of the Gonoshathya Samaj-based respected hospital. Md. Habibullah Talukdar Raskin.

During this, he outlined the plan to build a complete cancer hospital in 3 phases. In the first phase, unit-1 of the hospital will be developed as a stand-alone institution by assimilating the existing facilities for cancer treatment (brachytherapy and chemotherapy day-care center on 7th floor, existing manpower) in the city hospital, adding cancer OPD and cancer prevention department on 6th floor. Admitted patients will be treated under Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital. By 2024, all cancer services except radiation treatment teletherapy (linear accelerator) will be launched in combination with this unit and city hospital.

Unit-2 will be commissioned with 4/5 floors of the 10-storey building under construction at Mirpur Pallabi. By 2024, Gonoshathya Cancer Nivas will be opened here with OPD, cancer screening and low-cost lodging facilities for remote cancer patients. Indoor, daycare and OT will be launched by 2025.

In the third and final phase, a full-fledged and integrated cancer hospital with 45 radiotherapy machines, OT complex, day-care center facilities for chemotherapy will be built by 2027 at the acquired site of Savare Gonoshasthaya Kendra.

Dr. Md. Habibullah Talukder Raskin said, telemedicine-based community-based primary cancer services will be launched at the public health center. The department will work for advocacy and public opinion formation on the formulation of National Cancer Control Strategy Papers, Action Plans and Programmes.

He said that there is no preventive oncology department anywhere in the country, but no recognized cancer center can be imagined without this department all over the world. Public health centers have placed greater emphasis on disease prevention from birth.

Dr. Md. Habibullah Talukder Raskin said that core biopsy, Pap test and HPV DNA test can be done here. At the lowest stage, we have taken the initiative to conduct HPV DNA test with sample collection for only two thousand rupees.
