A 22-year-old Somali refugee is suspected of killing his pregnant girlfriend because his mother and family were against their relationship, Liter.kz reports with reference to Daily mail.

Prosecutors say Mohammedamin Abdirisek Ibrahim strangled girlfriend Saga Forsgren Elneborg with a bedside lamp wire last April.

The correspondence shows that Ibrahim planned to tell his relatives about their relationship and the child on April 28, 2023 – the night of Saga’s murder. He was worried how his family would take the news, because his chosen one was a white girl, a representative of a different culture. Saga tried to calm him down and assured him that “everything will be fine.” Subsequent messages from Saga asking him how he was doing went unanswered.

State prosecutor Elizabeth Anderson alleges that after the correspondence, Ibrahim went to Saga’s apartment, where he strangled her with a wire from a bedside lamp. The woman’s child, a boy weighing 1.7 kg, died in the womb.

According to local media, there is no evidence that Ibrahim’s family was involved in Saga’s murder or that they asked for her to be killed.

The correspondence also revealed that the man asked his friend to have an abortion shortly after she became pregnant, but Saga wanted to have a child and was excited about becoming a mother. She agreed to raise him alone if Ibrahim abandoned the child.

Despite Saga’s refusal to have an abortion, the man continued the relationship and planned a future together.

Mohammedamin Abdirisek Ibrahim is due to stand trial on murder charges on April 10. The trial is expected to last 15 days.

He denies any wrongdoing and when questioned by police said he loved Saga and still couldn’t believe she was dead.
