The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, stated that his country can serve as a “trade gateway” for Iran to Europe. He stated this in an exclusive interview to IRNA agency, also referring to the economic relations between the two countries.
“Since we are members of the European Union, we are members of the Schengen zone, then Hungary can easily be considered by Iran as a gateway to Europe,” Szijarto said.
He emphasized that Budapest and Tehran have continued their economic relations in recent years, despite the challenges caused by American sanctions against Iran.
“The fairly extended sanctions against Iran create serious challenges for effective economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, but this does not mean that cooperation is impossible,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.
On February 22, during the “Iran-Hungary” business forum organized in Tehran to strengthen economic ties between the two countries, a cooperation agreement was signed, which is mainly related to agriculture.
The parties also agreed on the introduction of Hungarian technologies for water purification.
