On January 18, sources said that the Pakistani army carried out overnight attacks against militant groups in Iran. Iranian media also reported several explosions near the border with Pakistan.

A senior intelligence source told AFP on the morning of January 18: “I can only confirm that we (Pakistan) have carried out attacks against anti-Pakistan militant groups – groups targeted inside Iran”.

On January 18, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that Pakistan had carried out a series of “highly coordinated” military attacks against Iran’s Sistan-Baluchistan province. “Many terrorists were destroyed in this intelligence-based operation,” the ministry said.

The attack took place at 4:05 am on January 18 (local time, ie 10:35 this morning Vietnam time). Talking to IRNA News Agency, a local official said several explosions were recorded in Sistan-Baluchistan province, southeastern Iran.

Sharing with the Young Journalist Club news agency in Iran on the same day, a security official of Sistan-Baluchistan province said that several missiles launched from the direction of Pakistan hit a border village in the province. This.

The official confirmed that at least 3 women and 4 children were killed by one of the explosions, but none of them were Iranian citizens.

The above incident took place after Iran carried out attacks against “terrorist targets” in Pakistan late on January 16. Pakistan said that this attack killed two children.

The Iranian government announced that the missile and drone attack at that time targeted the Jaish al-Adl group in Pakistan.

However, on January 17, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized this attack, considering it “an unjust and blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty”. They then recalled Pakistan’s ambassador to Iran.

Tehran and Islamabad frequently accuse each other of allowing rebel groups to operate from each other’s territory to carry out attacks.
