The past year has been an important milestone for the EU civilian mission, with major progress on issues related to mission locations, recruitment and the legal basis for its activities.
Publika.az Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan said this at the event dedicated to the first anniversary of the EU observer mission in Armenia on February 21.
“I can say with certainty that during this period we have also improved the cooperation between the mission and the departments of the Republic of Armenia and created a number of effective communication formats.
The mission is deployed in Armenia at a difficult time for us and performs an important monitoring function along the entire line of the internationally recognized border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In our assessment, the mission contributes to stability in the region and is an important factor in ensuring transparency of current events. We consider unjustified criticism of the mission from various countries unacceptable and support the mission to fully fulfill its mandate.
We are grateful to more than twenty EU member states, the Brussels administration and the mission staff for their contribution to this important mission.
We hope and expect to see representatives of all EU member states on the mission soon. We also welcome Canada’s participation in the mission and Norway’s desire to join it,” Grigoryan said.
