Realizing that the fish deaths on the Ma River showed no signs of stopping, many households evacuated their cages to a safe place.

On the morning of April 28, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ba Thuoc district (Thanh Hoa) said that many fish raised in cages on the Ma River continued to die.

Accordingly, cages of carp and tilapia of households in Hong Son neighborhood (Canh Nang town) and Chieng Ai village (Dien Ha commune) appeared to have large numbers of dead fish. In particular, grass carp weighing 1-3kg died everywhere.

As noted by the reporter, from yesterday up to now, households have used water pumps to create oxygen for the fish to suffocate, but the fish still die en masse.

As of this morning, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh’s family raised more than 400kg of dead fish in 3 cages; Mr. Luong Van Tam’s house also had about 300kg of dead fish.

Faced with the situation of dead fish gradually appearing downstream of Ma River, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ba Thuoc district advised people on anti-suffocation measures and sent officers to help people move the cages to a safe place.

This morning, dozens of cages of households living in Chieng Ai village (Dien Ha commune) were moved into the Chieng Ai stream area (500m away) to avoid fish deaths.

Currently, the functional branches of Ba Thuoc district are still calculating the damage as well as coordinating with authorities to find the cause of the mass fish deaths.
