Sub-Assistant Community Medical Officer Vijay Kumar Dey, accused of cutting a child’s private parts during circumcision in Noakhali’s Companyganj, has been transferred to Saint Martin Island. At the same time, medical assistant Saurabh Bhowmik has been banned from entering the upazila health complex.

Earlier on Wednesday (February 21) at noon, during the circumcision at the Upazila Health Complex, there was a complaint that a child named Al Nahian Tanveer (8) was cut off the tip of his private parts. The family members of the child said that around 11 o’clock on Wednesday, his family members took the child Tanveer to Companyganj Upazila Health Complex for circumcision. The medical officer was not present at that time. During the circumcision, Assistant Medical Officer Vijay Kumar Dey and Medical Assistant Saurabh Bhowmik mistakenly cut off the tip of the child’s private parts. When excessive bleeding started, the child’s relatives became agitated. Later, upazila health and family planning officer Dr. Md. Salim and Deputy Medical Officer Abu Nasher and others in charge of emergency department came to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Alamgir, father of child victim Tanveer, said, “When I took my child for circumcision, Vijay and Saurabh performed the circumcision themselves saying ‘the doctor is coming’. It cut off the tip of my son’s private parts. We are afraid of excessive bleeding. The accused fled immediately after the incident. Although the doctors say there is nothing to worry about, I am worried about the future of the child. I want those involved to be punished.”
The child’s uncle, Companiganj Upazila Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Sheikh Farid Farhad told Jago News that such an incident happened due to the irresponsibility of the emergency department. We demand punishment for the accused.
Meanwhile, after learning about the incident on Thursday (February 22) at noon, Chittagong Divisional Director Dr. Md. Mohiuddin and civil surgeon Dr. Masum Iftekhar visited Companyganj Upazila Health Complex. Later, the child, Al Nahyan Tanveer, was shifted to the district’s 250-bed general hospital for better treatment.
