The president of the Social Welfare Institute, Jorge Brítez, said that the Consorcio Hotelero Sudamericano SA, which belonged to Rosanna Bo de López Moreira (mother-in-law of Mario Abdo Benítez), left a millionaire nail to the pension, which had filed and won a lawsuit , despite which, during the son-in-law’s mandate, a very beneficial extrajudicial agreement was reached for the debtors, who still did not comply with it.

The owner explained that “in 2014, the pension company filed an executive lawsuit against the company Consorcio Hotelero Sudamericano SA (Hotel Excelsior de Asunción) for non-payment of the Employer Workers’ Contribution.”

“We have the urgent need to recover the money that the IPS has to collect. We have a lot to pay, but we also have a lot to collect,” said Brítez.

He reported that on April 17, the Civil and Commercial Court of First Instance ordered the seizure of the company’s assets until the amount claimed by the IPS was covered, which amounts to G. 10,781,465,055.

For his part, the legal advisor of the IPS, José González, explained that in 2014 the trial began against said hotel consortium for non-payment of the Employer Workers’ Contribution, which at that time amounted to G. 5.3 billion. Upon winning the trial, the company filed unconstitutionality actions. In 2017, when the debt had already climbed to G. 10.3 billion, the sentence was finally final due to the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice to reject the action presented by the firm.

In 2018, surprisingly, the IPS Board of Directors accepted an extrajudicial agreement, despite having won in all judicial instances. The defaulting company agreed with the previous administration to deliver four properties as payment and then partially pay the remainder in cash. However, this proposal was not fulfilled and therefore ended up harming the interests of the IPS.

Strikingly, during the previous administration, “four years passed without anything being done,” as highlighted by the interviewee, who stated that a short time ago the debtor company proposed handing over a property to the IPS to settle its debt, however, the response given from the forecast was due to rejection, as the value of what was proposed was insufficient and did not cover the total amount required.
