Conor McGregor is back! The date and opponent for the Irish wrestler’s comeback fight have been officially named

McGregor has not been in the UFC octagon since the summer of 2021, when he suffered a severe leg fracture in the fight against Dustin Poirier.

Although speculations about the return of the Irishman have been in the air ever since he was taken out of the Octagon on a stretcher after the fight against Poirier, now official information is finally available – Conor McGregor will return to the Octagon on June 29 as part of “UFC 303”.

His opponent in this fight will be the fan-popular fighting MMA veteran Michael Chandler.

McGregor gained substantial muscle mass during the rehabilitation process, as a result of which there were versions that the Irishman could fight even in the middleweight category (up to 83.9 kilograms). Such a scenario was repeatedly confirmed in the public space by the wrestler himself. However, the fight between him and Chandler will take place in the 77.1 kilogram division.

“A lot of things are behind the scenes. The main aspect is the right moment. Chandler has been ready all this time, but Conor has not. We talked about this in one of the press conferences. He had a lot of other responsibilities. We don’t want Conor to agree to fight when he has a bunch of other responsibilities and he can’t fully train,” White said at a press conference.

The UFC president, speaking about McGregor’s duties, referred to the promotion of the movie “Roadhouse”. The famous Irish wrestler played a character named Knox in this film. Given McGregor’s popularity, he had to participate in various promotional activities for the film.

McGregor, 35, has amassed 22 wins and six losses in his professional MMA career. On the other hand, 37-year-old Chandler has 23 wins and eight losses.
