Dr. Taha Rabeh, head of the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research in Egypt, said that the beginning of the month of Dhul-Qa’dah for the current Hijri year 1445 will coincide astronomically with next Thursday, which is 29 days long.

Rabeh added, in a statement today, Saturday, that the crescent of the month of Dhu al-Qi’dah will be born at exactly 5:23 a.m. local Cairo time on Wednesday, Shawwal 29, corresponding to May 8, “sighting day.”

Eid al-Adha date

Rabeh explained that the new crescent will remain for 31 minutes after sunset on that “day of sighting” in Mecca, and in Cairo for 38 minutes, and in the rest of the governorates of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the new crescent will remain in their skies for periods ranging between 32-40 minutes.

He added that in Arab and Islamic capitals and cities, the new crescent will remain after sunset on that day for periods ranging from 8 to 48 minutes.

The Astronomy Institute’s statement explained that the beginning of the month of Dhul-Hijjah 1445 AH astronomically will be Friday, 6/7/2024 AD.

The Astronomy Institute’s statement indicated that Arafat’s pause for the year 1445 AH, astronomically, will be on Saturday, June 15, 2024, and Eid al-Adha, astronomically, will be on Sunday, June 16, 2024.
