“Al-Bilad” sources said that some economic figures from major merchants in Bahrain have begun contacts to coordinate the nomination of their candidate for the presidency of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry after the end of the term of the current president, Samir Nass, especially with the latter’s unwillingness to renew his candidacy. In compliance with the Chamber’s law stipulating that it is not permissible to hold the presidency for more than two consecutive terms.

The sources praised Nass’s giving throughout his term and what he accomplished to serve the commercial and industrial sector through a package of initiatives, projects and positions that reflected the voice of the commercial and industrial street, pointing to the amount of satisfaction that accompanied Nass’s term during the two sessions in which he led the chamber.
The most prominent candidates

Regarding the most prominent figures nominated among major merchants and business families to lead the chamber in the next stage, the sources stated that contact was made with the well-known businessman Farouk Al-Moayyed, but he apologized for that, stressing his continued commitment to supporting the chamber and its board of directors.

The sources pointed out that the name of the former Minister of Industry and Trade, Zayed Al-Zayani, was circulated. He is from a well-known business family and chairs the board of directors of the family company (Al-Zayani Investments), and he was in direct contact with the chamber during the period of holding the ministerial portfolio.
